The 2004 draft-day swap of Eli Manning and Philip Rivers was supposed to provide both the Chargers and Giants with their quarterbacks of the future. Apparently no one told Drew Brees, who emerged from two unspectacular seasons as San Diego's starter to record a truly breakout season. The former Purdue star completed 65 percent of his passes and threw 27 touchdowns while only getting picked off seven times. Brees ranked third in the league in passer rating and led the Chargers to the AFC West title.
