Details (Description): Yu Darvish followed in the footsteps of previous successful Japanese pitchers who made the journey to play in Major League Baseball. Before joining the MLB this year, Darvish was widely recognized as the best Japanese pitcher in the Nippon Professional Baseball league, posting 18 wins and a 1.44 ERA in his last season. Darvish is one of the most hyped up pitchers to come over from Japan in quite some time, stemming from his large frame (6'5), flowing hair, and his very public persona.
In 2012, Darvish signed a contract with the Texas Rangers for $60 million (over six years) and his first full season with the team has mainly been a success. In his first month of the season, Darvish was named AL Rookie of the Month, accumulating a 4-0 record, with a 2.18 ERA, and 33 strikeouts. He currently has 16 wins and is third in MLB for strikeouts.
As the Rangers look to a possible playoff run, Darvish will be one of the key players counted on to provide some October magic.
