After leading West Virginia to the NCAA Final Four and being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 1959, JERRY WEST joined the Los Angeles Lakers as the second overall selection in the 1960 NBA draft. West teamed with Elgin Baylor on the floor to give the Lakers a one-two punch most teams couldn't counter. He was named to the All-Star team 14 times, and overtime-forcing 60-foot shots (like the one in Game three of the 1970 NBA Finals) earned him the nickname "Mr. Clutch." West delivered Los Angeles' first title in 1972, and was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
